Everyday we witness Assimilation from us as teenagers trying to fit in with cliques or adults with business jobs seeking out approval from there boss. Beneatha Younger from the play A Raisin in the sun, does not only seek out approval from society and at least the supportiveness from her family would be nice. Being African American in this time period can be a result were she is taken lightly and not seriously, her family does not give her any support what so ever besides mama paying for her schooling, most people back then beleived that woman were to take care if the children and clean.
Beneatha being the character that she is and not wanting to show that she has black heritage and in a way acting or portraying her self to be white. That being said Asagui mentions to her when he visits her at the apartment that she shouldn't do her hair like everyone else she is beautiful the way she is. Well not in that context but in words to that meaning. So the real question here is have you seen assimilation? Of course we've all have theres no use in lying.
Noted of a Native Spealer by Eric Lui came to the United States to study in college, spending time here he fit in with some crowds influencing the way he acted at home and the way he acted at school. Spending most of his time with his white friends he noticed well they ate and how wxpensive there food was when at home it was rather different including his education taught back at home. In conclusion assimilation can affect everyone in different ways be it good or bad.
